Strong Initial Sales for Spencer Technologies
Phoenix Cardiovascular, Inc. Acquires 10 Innovative Ultrasound Devices that Better Identify Conditions Leading to Stroke

SEATTLE, WA - SEPTEMBER 10, 2001 - Spencer Technologies announced the sale of 10 transcranial Doppler units to Phoenix Cardiovascular, Inc., a clinical diagnostic company based in Pennsylvania.
The TCD100M is a non-invasive ultrasound product for monitoring blood flow in the brain. The product is designed to help accurately diagnose conditions that may lead to stroke; both in naturally occurring and surgical situations, so preventative actions may be taken.

"The new Spencer Technologies (digital) TCD unit is the best thing to happen to TCD technology since color Duplex imaging," according to Joseph Hughes, RVT and V.P. of Clinical Operations at Phoenix Cardiovascular, Inc. "This new modality makes examinations so much easier than with conventional TCD. The TCD 100M makes training technologists quicker and decreases study time in most cases."

The TCD 100M is the first digital product, utilizing Power M-Mode technology, to be introduced to the TCD market. Digitizing the blood flow signals allows Spencer Technologies to incorporate a unique, patented display that offers much greater ease of use over current technology, and has significant technical advantages.
Spencer Technologies was first cleared by the FDA to market the TCD 100M in September 2000, and the product was released by the company for sale in April of this year. Pricing requests and overall sales have been increasing at a steady rate since the product was released for sale.

Phoenix Cardiovascular, Inc. (PCI), headquartered in Pennsylvania, is a privately held company focused on establishing and developing high quality non-invasive cardiovascular laboratories in community hospitals. PCI has assembled an expert team of registered technologists, operations managers, and appropriately credentialed physicians to provide comprehensive assessment of patients showing indications of stroke, peripheral vascular, and cardiac disease. In addition to preparing labs for accreditation, PCI provides marketing and billing services. PCI currently manages over 20 vascular laboratories located in Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey.

Spencer Technologies is dedicated to significantly improving healthcare through non-invasive technologies for diagnosis, monitoring, and therapy. It is an integrated patient service, clinical research, R&D, and manufacturing company marketing innovative products and services through worldwide customer relationships.

Spencer Technologies is developing five proprietary Doppler ultrasound products addressing the detection, prevention, and treatment of conditions leading to stroke, pulmonary embolism, deafness, and brain hemorrhage. Unique to the industry, Spencer Technologies utilizes expertise from its clinical patient business to identify needs for new products and to design these products from a user standpoint. Spencer Technologies bioengineers then work with clinicians to bring these innovative products to market.
