Strong
Initial Sales for Spencer Technologies
Phoenix Cardiovascular, Inc. Acquires 10 Innovative Ultrasound Devices that Better
Identify Conditions Leading to Stroke
SEATTLE, WA - SEPTEMBER 10, 2001 - Spencer Technologies announced the
sale of 10 transcranial Doppler units to Phoenix Cardiovascular, Inc., a clinical
diagnostic company based in Pennsylvania.
The TCD100M is a non-invasive ultrasound product for monitoring blood flow in the brain.
The product is designed to help accurately diagnose conditions that may lead to stroke;
both in naturally occurring and surgical situations, so preventative actions may be taken.
"The new Spencer Technologies (digital) TCD unit is the best thing to happen to TCD
technology since color Duplex imaging," according to Joseph Hughes, RVT and V.P. of
Clinical Operations at Phoenix Cardiovascular, Inc. "This new modality makes
examinations so much easier than with conventional TCD. The TCD 100M makes training
technologists quicker and decreases study time in most cases."
The TCD 100M is the first digital product, utilizing Power M-Mode technology, to be
introduced to the TCD market. Digitizing the blood flow signals allows Spencer
Technologies to incorporate a unique, patented display that offers much greater ease of
use over current technology, and has significant technical advantages.
Spencer Technologies was first cleared by the FDA to market the TCD 100M in September
2000, and the product was released by the company for sale in April of this year. Pricing
requests and overall sales have been increasing at a steady rate since the product was
released for sale.
