The Pulmonary Embolism Monitor
(Phase II Development)
The Problem
- Pulmonary Embolism (blood clots in the lungs)
- 600,000 cases in US annually
- 200,000 die, many without warning, called "silent killer"
- Only 12% of patients diagnosed correctly before death
- 90% of cases caused by "deep vein thrombosis" (DVT) in legs
- DVT caused by trauma, cancer, paralyzed limbs, hospitalization, immobilization, &
pregnancy
The Solution
- Unique, safe, noninvasive, cost effective Doppler device
- Detects pulmonary microemboli entering the lungs which may indicate risk for an acute
embolic event
- Microemboli indicate need for preventative treatment
